For both private and business travel, Germany is among the most popular destinations in the world.

No other country hosts as many flagship trade fairs as Germany, which occupies second place in the world rankings of conference and convention locations. Everything is in place here to cater to the growing global trend for greener, more sustainable events.

Today, when meeting and congress destinations want to stand out from their competition, they do so through specific business expertise. For example, international organisations are increasingly looking for convention locations where their sphere of interest is represented by highly respected companies, research institutes, initiatives and opinion-formers. As well as valuable contacts, this ensures that there is a lively exchange of views and suitable ancillary activities. In other words, the focus is on conference and convention locations where there is specialist knowledge and industry expertise. The GCB German Convention Bureau e. V. is now intensifying its marketing for Germany as a MICE location by utilising the country’s expertise in key industries and connecting them with other international source markets.

Barrier-free Germany

Accessible events for everyone - meetings and conferences are platforms where all kinds of very different people come together to network and exchange know-how. This is only possible if everyone who is interested in taking part is also able to do so. It is as important for people with physical impairments to attend a conference or visit a trade fair as it is for everyone else. This is where Germany is open to all, with many venues, accommodation providers and public transport operators, making travelling into and within Germany as easy as possible.

As an association I am interested in knowing what institutes and companies within your region could attract me – more than just the amenities that you may have in your city or what your hotels offer. You first have to get me attracted to your city. I would be more attracted if I knew that there were industries there of interest to my members and to my audience.

The German Convention Bureau (GCB) is training 500 advisors across the country who will share their extensive knowledge of sustainability matters with conference and event venues. Funding for the project is being provided by the German Foundation for the Environment. The aim is to optimise the environmental footprint of events and to increase demand for green meetings. Systematic marketing activities are therefore also part of the project.

Germany is up there with the best in the world as a venue for conferences. I would say Germany’s success can be attributed to the value for money it offers, its broad range of high-end conference hotels, convention centres and event venues and its reputation for efficiency and security. Germany's central European location is also very convenient.
